The guiding principle of this framework is that all students can learn to read and write effectively.
The goal of balanced literacy is to provide and cultivate the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, word study, and mastering mechanics for all students. A balanced literacy between reading and writing in a student centered classroom allows students to receive the individualized teaching appropriate to their strengths and needs in literacy. Implementation: The instruction moves from modeling to independent authentic application and use of literacy skills. Children read and write independently and in a variety of group settings.
